The MPRESSOR 500 is filled with creative possibilities. Onboard, the MPRESSOR 500 features negative ratios, which is a great tool for creating cool groovy 'pumping', backwards sounds, expansion effects, gating effects and more. At a negative ratio, the characteristic curve bends and returns back down after crossing the threshold, meaning the louder the input, the quieter the output. The Anti Log is another function that can help to create groovy effects. With a normal release curve, it follows a standard linear (logarithmic) progress to give you transparent results. However, with anti log on the release curve uses an anti-logarithmic course to produce a creative dynamic effect. The curve will stay the same at the beginning, then become much faster at the end. With the touch of a button these extreme and creative effects can be easily experimented with. When used together with the negative ratios, cool pumping effects can be enhanced.
MPRESSOR 500 features a THD Boost function that allows on-the-fly signal colouration and saturation effects for getting a grittier sound. When this function is activated you'll raise the level in front of the gain control element, generating additional harmonics. What's great about this is that the detector in the sidechain of the compressor runs parallel so it is not influence by the THD Boost at all. The actual compression won't change, it is only the sound which is being influence.
The MPRESSOR 500 also features a gain reduction limiter that is unusually placed in the control path of the compressor, limiting the control voltage according to the setting of the GR Limit controller. With this, loud parts of your track will keep their dynamics and not be compressed beyond the limit of the Gain Reduction Limiter. This can be ideal for ducking or upward compression.
The Auto Fast function provides semi automation, or perfect attack on the basis of the value set by the user. It's a great way to glue parts of a mix together. Usually, if a very short attack time is used, the compressor will catch short peaks, but will also process the sustaining signal which can result in audible distortion. The longer settings will reduce distortion but then it will be too slow for catching fast impulses. In Auto Fast mode, the compressor is lightning fast only when it's needed and adapts to the currently right setting automatically.
In true Elysia style, the MPRESSOR 500 is composed of discrete circuitry throughout its audio paths, power supply, sidechain and driver for the LED metre. Original circuitry has been specially designed to deliver outstanding clarity. It constantly operates in permanent class-A mode, removing any crossover distortion and keeping the sound character wide, open and transparent.
