High-end sound, wherever you are. The Tascam DR-40 Portable Audio Recorder employs two condenser microphones, which can be configured in both X/Y and A/B configurations. This unique mic placement makes it perfect for both stereo and ambient recordings. This flexible mic positioning allows you to cater to various sound sources whilst delivering crystal-clear sound at all times.
The microphones will automatically change the left and right channels when the microphones are flipped. No matter the orientation, the microphones deliver pristine audio fidelity. The four-channel design provides 96kHz/24-bit digital audio resolution, capturing every nuance from your source audio. You can also incorporate additional microphones, thanks to the built-in XLR mic inputs. The locking Neutrik mic inputs are ideal for use with balanced microphones or line input from Mixers or PA consoles. The DR-40 also features an integrated microphone preamp with Phantom Power for use with condenser microphones.

The portable design coupled with the high-end sound makes the DR-40 perfect for a wide rang of recording purposes. The Tascam DR-40 is ideal for dictation and interviews thanks to the X/Y microphones and the high-end sound. The dual microphone are also great for recording live bands, demos and song ideas whilst on the move. The high SPL level allows you to record even high-volume performances without distortion, ensuring a clean and concise sound. It also means it can pick up quiet sound sources such as lectures.
The DR-40 comes jam-packed with helpful features, ensuring you get the best possible recording every single time. The four-channel design allows you to record using up to four microphones at once. There are various different recording modes which you can cater to your sound sources for different situations. A peak limit and low-cut filter also helps to minimise distortion whilst recording.
Headphone output, level align, effects and chromatic tuner
The integrated headphone output allows to monitor your recordings so you can hear them back instantaneously. The recorder also has a built-in speaker so you can listen back without eh need for headphones. The various playback modes allow you to loop a section of your audio, slow it down or even change the pitch. You can use these tools to learn new music or hear speech more concisely.
The DR-40 also includes an onboard chromatic tuner, which is handy for tuning instruments before recording. Additionally, a stereo reverb effect is included, which you can use during playback or during recording. The level align features helps to avoid jump in playback, helping to smooth out the levels for a more rounded recording.
Portable design, powered by batteries
The compact design makes the DR-40 highly portable, fitting easily within your pocket or backpack whilst on the move. The portable design makes it perfect for musicians on the go, allowing you to get ideas down wherever you are. The battery powered recorder requires 2 x AA batteries and delivers up to 15 hours battery life (dependent on usage).
