Key Features
The Doepfer A-188-2 Tapped BBD Module is a bucket brigade device delay module for Eurorack synthesizers. Sharing similarities to other BBD-style delay modules from Doepfer, the A-188-2 is constructed with a tapped circuit and six outputs, offering a wider range of versatility and tonal options than before. With six outputs and two submix outputs, the A-188-2 allows you to create two unique configurations of tapped delay lines, each with independent level and mix control. The stereo submix outputs offer virtually unlimited creative potential to add movement, depth and excitement to your tracks.
Ideal for the live performing musician, the Doepfer A-188-2's tapped delay design offers the ability to create otherworldly delay lines, adding rhythmic complexity to your music. Additionally, creating faster slapback tones as well as Karplus effects such as Chorus and Flanger are easily achievable with the A-188-2.

The Doepfer A-188-2 bases the design on classic Bucket Brigade Device modules. BBDs were first used before digital delays, renowned for their unique tonal characteristics. BBD circuits are like that of sample and hold units. They work by passing on the voltage to the next module in the chain at each clock pulse. This helps to create the delay effect by bouncing sound into these different ‘buckets’ for echoes that decrease in volume. BBDs have unique advantages over digital delays, such as their exceptional versatility. You can use the module as a randomiser or sequencer with a positive or negative effect as well as produce delay controlled by ADSR. The wide variety of sound design possibilities makes the A-188-1C ideal for live performances.
Where the A-188-2 differs from many other BBD-style delays is the use of tapped bucket circuits with a total of six possible outputs. Using a specialised MN3011 chip, the A-188-2 offers more flexibility than any other delay module on the market. Featuring two submix outputs, each with independent levels, polarity and mix control, you have almost limitless options for patching creative and exciting delays into your performances. Of course, two outputs means that running stereo is no problem with the A-188-2.
Similar to other feedback offerings in Doepfer modules with one vital difference, there are now six outputs to contend with! Normalled to the 396 Tap output with the ability to patch the feedback to any tapped output, the A-188-2 is unrivalled in tonal variation and versatility. Even external units and modules can be used such as a VCA for voltage-controlled feedback. As noted earlier, the two submix outputs can even be patched in any of the tapped outputs, creating a unique combination of notches and peaks in the frequency response, adding an extra layer of versatility to your tonal palette.
