Key Features
The AuroraDSP Rhino is a groundbreaking guitar amplifier and effects plug-in which breaks traditional conventions of digital amp sims. Offering everything you need from start to finish to create a crushing guitar tone, Rhino ensures you never need to leave the plug-in or utilise external processors to get the guitar sound you've dreamed of. Four preamplifier designs pair with multiple input drive types, allowing you to create everything from ethereal, soft ambient tones to crushing metal tones.
A range of clever additions such as a comprehensive parametric EQ with EQ match functionality, and multiple onboard effects covering all the requirements from chorus, algorithmic and convolution reverb, chorus and more all come together in one streamlined package. Crucial to any guitar tone is the speaker selection. Rhino lets you seamlessly morph between four cabinets simultaneously as well as the ability to load your own custom IRs.
Where other guitar plug-ins end, Rhino continues with a dedicated output section with a built-in low midrange multi-band compressor to maintain a tight, articulate and punchy sound that's free from overbearing low-end. A powerhouse of a plug-in, if you're looking for an all-in-one solution, look no further than Rhino.

Where it all starts, Rhino's Input module lets you adjust your signal to match your guitar's output for optimised plug-in performance. Three different modes are available, each tailoring your input sound to your pickups and signal strength. Smooth creates a subtle high-frequency roll-off for brighter guitars, Normal applies no effect and Hot adds treble for older strings or guitars with less bite in their pickups. Of course, signal strength can be adjusted with the Input gain knob to add more or less signal to your plug-in.
Where would a metal guitarist be without his noise gate? Thankfully Rhino includes one with controls for Release and Attack as well as a threshold capable of going from 0 to -88dB to cut out background noise or to help enhance the staccato pick attack of modern djent genres.
This is where Rhino shines. The Preamp module offers four different tones, each modelled from rare, boutique and real-world amplifiers with a twist to give them more versatility and flexibility. Each is represented as a colour, the Red preamp models a Rivera Knucklehead, a crunchy amplifier which can go from clean to highly boosted tones. Take advantage of the Bright mode for additional air and sparkle to dull guitar tones. Next, the Yellow models a Cornford Roadhouse 30. Perfect for modern rock and less extreme styles of guitar tones but is perfectly capable of producing classic English-style metal tones when boosted.
A staple of the metal guitarists locker, Blue models a Mesa Boogie Roadster. Heavy bottom end, punchy mids and a searing high-end that can cut through walls of guitars and bass with ease. Lastly, Orange delivers a midrange-focused sound of the Victory Kraken. Aggressive and smooth, this amplifier is ideal for lead playing and can go into infinite sustain when boosted.
It's not just the amplifiers you'll find in this section. Four boost modes are also included to add sustain and extra tightness and gain to your signal. SCREAM is based on a highly-recognisable green overdrive pedal, adding a small midrange bump and level to your signal. BRUTE includes controls for bass, treble and level, delivering up to 23dB of boost without altering the distortion character of your guitar, perfect for low-tuned 8-string guitars. Dirty and noisy, the FUZZ pedal goes beyond what distortion is typically capable of achieving. Lastly, a dynamics compressor in the form of the PUSH mode is included.
This module provides you with powerful EQ capabilities that can be easily accessed within the plugin chain. You can effortlessly make EQ adjustments using the knobs at predetermined trouble spots, even without switching to the full view.
To unlock the module's full potential, make sure to click the arrows in the upper-right corner, which will reveal an expanded view. In this comprehensive view, you'll have access to a wide range of EQ adjustments and features typically found in other EQ plugins. To the right, you'll notice the user-friendly EQ MATCH functionality. RHINO simplifies this process, making it a breeze to use.
Ensuring you never need to leave the plug-in, Rhino contains studio-quality effects including reverb, delay, flanger, chorus and phaser. Everything you could ever need for your guitar for lead or ambient effects - all without leaving the plug-in.
Using the standard view, you can simply blend in how much of the affected signal you want in your tone, or you can open up to the expanded view and deeply manipulate parameters from time, depth, rate, feedback, width and much more.
RHINO's cabinet/poweramp module is a streamlined feature that allows you to refine and adjust your guitar's sound with ease. With a fresh approach to impulse response selection, AuroraDSP has streamlined the process by using intuitive names based on audio characteristics rather than confusing naming conventions. This makes it much simpler to find the perfect tone.
In the expanded view, you'll discover additional customization options, such as three frequency ranges to enhance your sound: PRES for the 8kHz region, RESO for the 120Hz region, and HOT for the 1kHz region. You'll also find three settings: FLAT for no added poweramp traits, STUDIO for a blend of flat and API preamp tones, and LIVE for tube poweramp features with reduced mids and boosted low and high ranges.
On the right, there are four impulse response sections with descriptive adjectives for tonal quality. You can choose one or all four, and effortlessly adjust the microphone position to achieve the desired sound. Lastly, at the bottom, select from rhythm, cleans, leads, or custom to access a variety of pre-selected impulse responses specifically designed for your preferred tone type.
Finalize your tone before the audio hits your mix with the output stage. Just like you would in a studio, the TIGHT functionality is a multi-band compressor which works in the lower midrange frequencies to ensure your low-end does not become overbearing when tight, percussive palm-muted playing happens. To compensate for any volume loss, simply drag the Output fader up or down to get the perfect level against other instruments in your mix.
